The interdisciplinary internship
The interdisciplinary internship in Global Studies is a special feature that exists in a similar form only in Environmental Systems Science Studies. It is a guided internship that officially takes the form of a course. Up to 25 students and 4 supervisors each work on a different topic for one semester. The topics always refer to the Sustainable Development Goals. However, the topics are only "vehicles" to train the competencies listed below. IPs have the dual purpose of providing hands-on practice opportunities for our students and added value for the community and society at large.
In the interdisciplinary internship we train the following competencies:
- Conduct science-based research of secondary and simple primary data and analyze it,
- Designing, supporting and delivering (social) media directed to the public,
- Organizing events for the public aimed at broadening public awareness and opinion on sustainability issues,
- Development and practical engagement in small-scale activities aimed at globalization and development (e.g. micro-internships),
- Training to work with NGOs, (mostly social) enterprises and public administration units,
- Practicing skills such as punctuality, collaboration, and communication,
- Developing interdisciplinary thinking and inter- and transdisciplinary communication.
- Organizing knowledge in novel ways, as well as the
- Developing values, attitudes, and insights by the students themselves.
ATTENTION: Participation in the interdisciplinary internship is only planned for the 3rd or 4th semester of study. For registration, Module A and Submodule B.5 must be completed!
